Connecting Queensland manufacturers with untapped talent through the Work in Manufacturing Jobs Portal

As Queensland’s manufacturing sector continues to grow, so does the need for a skilled, diverse and engaged workforce. One of the most effective ways for employers to strengthen their recruitment reach is by registering on the Work in Manufacturing Jobs Portal—a purpose-built platform connecting manufacturing employers with job seekers with disability across the state.

Developed by Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) in partnership with Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN), powered by BenchOn, and funded by the Queensland Government, the portal is the first of its kind in Queensland’s manufacturing landscape. It’s designed to improve disability employment outcomes while giving manufacturers streamlined access to untapped talent.

A smarter, skills-based way to recruit

Unlike traditional recruitment platforms, the Work in Manufacturing Jobs Portal focuses on skills-based matching, ensuring employers are connected with candidates based on what they can do—not the barriers they may face. The platform’s accessible design allows job seekers to apply in ways that best suit them, including text, video or audio submissions, making the process more inclusive and authentic.

This approach aligns strongly with the diversity of roles in modern manufacturing. Queensland’s manufacturing sector already employs around 1,200 people with disability, and there is considerable opportunity to grow this number as employers embrace more inclusive hiring practices.

Support beyond recruitment

Employers who register also gain access to ongoing support from Inclusion Consultants, who can provide guidance on inclusive workplace design and accessibility improvements. These experts help businesses feel confident and prepared to welcome new employees with diverse abilities.

Building workforce readiness

As workforce shortages continue to challenge Queensland’s manufacturing sector, the portal represents a strategic opportunity for businesses to stay ahead. It not only widens the recruitment pool but also strengthens organisational capability by embedding inclusive practices.

Suzanne Kulk, MSQ Industry Engagement Manager for Diversity, reinforces this message.

“Being vacancy ready means thinking differently about talent. The Work in Manufacturing Jobs Portal gives employers a direct pathway to motivated candidates with valuable skills and perspectives. Inclusion isn’t just good practice, it’s good business.”

Her message echoes the goal of the platform: to help manufacturers build capable, sustainable workforces while contributing to a more inclusive Queensland economy.
