September 2024 marks Queensland Manufacturing Month, a time to celebrate one of Australia’s most innovative and dynamic industries. A recent data release from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) confirms that manufacturing is one of the most innovative sectors in the country.

Fifty-eight percent of the nation’s manufacturing businesses report being innovation active in the last two years, and Queensland ranks second by proportion of innovation-active businesses.

The Queensland manufacturing industry is introducing new goods, services and business processes to optimise output and to minimise environmental impact. Manufacturers are focused on innovating to meet current and changing consumer needs.

Manufacturing Skills Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Rebecca Andrews, said manufacturing month was an opportunity to recognise the incredible innovation happening in our state’s factories and workshops.

“Queensland’s industry was at the forefront of the innovation wave, contributing significantly to the state’s economy and job market.

“With more than 190,000 Queenslanders employed in manufacturing and an annual contribution of almost $25 billion to the state’s economy, the sector is a powerhouse of creativity and technological advancement.

“From aerospace components and greener products to advanced medical technology, our manufacturers are creating the products of tomorrow, today.

“In the face of global challenges, our manufacturers are showing incredible ingenuity.

Advanced manufacturing adoption: Queensland manufacturers are embracing technologies, including robotics, to enhance productivity and competitiveness. TUFF is an Australian-owned company that manufactures bullbars, ute trays, truck bodies, canopies, brush rails and other 4×4 accessories. TUFF has a truck bullbar factory and fitting centre in Brisbane and is a leading provider of protective and industrial coatings. The company has made a significant investment in technology, training, and manufacturing capabilities over the past few years, which has seen TUFF diversify into new markets such as the hire sector and mining.

Ahead of the curve designs: Delivering innovative products and components tailored for new and demanding applications, like those of Central Queensland-based All Industries Group. A multi-disciplined design, engineering and fabrication specialist focused on product supply and turnkey solutions for local, national and international clients. They are committed to innovation, technology and training.

Sustainable Practices: Innovation in Queensland’s manufacturing sector is also evident in the development of eco-friendly products and the implementation of sustainable manufacturing processes. Everhard Industries is a family-owned manufacturer using environmentally conscious materials and sustainable manufacturing techniques to design and manufacture world class drainage, wastewater and environmental solutions for residential and commercial clients.

“These innovators are not just adapting to pressure; they’re harnessing it to propel manufacturing into new frontiers of excellence,” said Rebecca.
