Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) has launched an innovative online platform designed to connect job seekers with disability to employment opportunities in Queensland’s manufacturing sector.
The Work in Manufacturing Jobs Portal is a first-of-its-kind initiative created in partnership with Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN), powered by BenchOn and funded by the Queensland Government.
Assistant Minister Rebecca Young said the Queensland Government was committed to supporting Queensland’s manufacturing industry.
“After a decade of decline, the Crisafulli Government is committed to maximising the true potential of the manufacturing industry within our economy, and that means creating pathways for all Queenslanders, including those with disability, to contribute their skills and talents to this vital sector,” Assistant Minister Young said.
“We want more Queenslanders to see manufacturing and skills training as a pathway to independence and building the lifestyle they deserve.
“I’m delighted to launch this initiative that will enhance opportunities for Queenslanders with disability while strengthening our manufacturing workforce. This represents not just support for individuals, but a strategic investment in Queensland’s economic future, and is just another way we are delivering on our commitment to addressing Queensland’s skills shortage.”
The Work in Manufacturing Jobs Portal features a skills-based matching system, accessible design, and multiple application formats allowing candidates to submit their applications as text, video, or audio recordings.
Manufacturing Skills Queensland chief executive Rebecca Andrews said the platform addresses a significant opportunity for the sector.
“There are around 1,200 people with disability working in Queensland manufacturing, and we would like to see this number grow.
“Manufacturing is such a diverse and exciting industry, with roles for all abilities. We need to create stronger pathways for people with disability to enter manufacturing.
“Creating inclusive workplaces isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s also more achievable than many manufacturers realise,” said Rebecca.
The platform has been specifically designed with accessibility in mind, focusing on abilities rather than limitations, and includes free support services for both job seekers and employers.
DISABILITY COMMUNITY EXPERTISE DRIVES INCLUSIVE DESIGN
Queenslanders with Disability Network chief executive Michelle Moss said Queenslanders with Disability Network is proud to work alongside MSQ to co-design this leading platform.
“Our members have brought their lived experience and expertise to the table, helping shape a practical solution that harnesses technology to improve disability employment outcomes and shift the statistics in the right direction.”
Additional support for manufacturers is provided through QDN’s inclusion consultants. Consultants can assist manufacturers undertake a review of the workplace and make connections to a range of services.
“We have seen positive outcomes when businesses are connected to the right information and right supports and the value employees with disability bring to manufacturing operations is tremendous.”
INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY CONNECTING TALENT WITH OPPORTUNITY
BenchOn chief executive Tim Walmsley said the technology platform provides manufacturers with a streamlined pathway to creating inclusive workplaces.
“As a Queensland-based technology provider, we’re incredibly proud to have designed this solution that bridges the gap between manufacturers and people with disabilities.
“The platform we’ve developed streamlines the integration process, making it simpler for employers to access the untapped talent pool that exists within the disability community,” said Tim.
The program is free for both job seekers and employers. The platform can be accessed at: https://msq.nousuat.com.au/programs/work-in-manufacturing-jobs-portal/
