Preparing students for success in the manufacturing industry

Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) is developing a comprehensive curriculum-based program designed to equip students with the skills required to succeed in the manufacturing industry. Working in partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), this initiative supports the delivery of the QCAA Engineering Skills 2024 applied senior syllabus, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that prepare students for future employment opportunities.

The program focuses on delivering industry-informed resources that bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring students develop relevant competencies that align with current industry needs and standards.

Program highlights

The Pathways to a Trade program will provide a framework and resources for teachers delivering the QCAA Engineering Skills 2024 applied senior syllabus. Lessons, resources and a framework for work experience will be delivered as part of the project. By completing this program, students will gain valuable insights into manufacturing processes and develop transferable skills that prepare them for diverse career pathways in this vital industry.

 

Program structure

This comprehensive program will include:

  • Unit A: Fitting and Machining: Hands-on training in essential manufacturing techniques, precision measurement, and component production.
  • Unit B: Welding and Fabrication: Practical skills in joining, cutting, and assembling metal structures using industry-standard equipment.
  • Teacher Delivery Guide: Detailed resources to support effective classroom implementation of the program.
  • Teacher Professional Development: Specialised training to ensure educators are equipped with current industry knowledge and teaching methodologies.
  • Work Experience Program: Structured placements with industry partners to provide real-world experience.
  • Certificate II Alignment: Resources mapped to support units of the Certificate II in Engineering Pathways.

This program will be made available to Queensland schools implementing the QCAA Engineering Skills 2024 applied senior syllabus in 2026.
